A Sustainable Way to Reach the Market

Saga Egmont, part of the international Egmont group, has always aimed to make literature accessible to everyone. As a digital publisher, they have successfully released audiobooks and e-books, while also exploring the world of printed books through selected titles in Print on Demand format. However, they faced several challenges when trying to establish themselves in the Swedish market.

Efficient distribution

Saga Egmont previously struggled to distribute printed books in the Swedish market, partly due to technical issues with handling metadata in Swedish. Their international Print on Demand solutions lacked integration with Swedish retailers and offered limited insight into sales data.

"Our previous solutions simply didn't work optimally here," says Therese Dahlqvist, Editor-in-Chief at Saga Sweden. "We faced technical obstacles, especially in handling metadata in Swedish. On top of that, we didn't have access to detailed sales statistics, which made it difficult to understand our customers and engage with them effectively."

For a publishing house that puts the reader at the center while fully supporting its authors, change was necessary.

Publit's platform

Publit entered the picture with a solution that not only addressed the technical challenges but also opened up new opportunities. Through Publit's platform, Saga Egmont gained access to detailed statistics about their catalog and sales. But it wasn't just the technology that made an impact.

"What really made a difference for us was the commitment of Publit's employees," says Therese Dahlqvist. "They shared our passion for literature and showed a genuine willingness to find solutions that worked for us. This made the collaboration both inspiring and effective."

Publit's sustainability efforts also played a key role in the decision. As part of the Egmont group, Saga Egmont is committed to reducing their climate impact, and Print on Demand proved to be a natural extension of this focus. By printing books only on demand, they could eliminate overproduction, reduce inventory, and avoid waste – a modern, environmentally friendly approach that reflects their values.

The results speak for themselves

Through the collaboration with Publit, Saga Egmont has achieved its goals:

  • A simple and sustainable Print on Demand solution.

  • Increased sales and reach.

  • Reduced environmental impact.

Publit's solutions have not only simplified Saga Egmont's operations but also strengthened the relationship with both readers and authors. Offering printed books alongside digital formats has become an important part of its strategy.

"For many of our authors, it is a great joy to see their books in print and be able to share them with loved ones," says Therese Dahlqvist. "It has also allowed us to reach a wider audience, both through social media and traditional channels."

By combining digitization of older titles with offering reprints, Saga Egmont reaches readers who might otherwise have missed these works. At the same time, improved insights into sales and customer behavior provide invaluable tools to understand and meet market needs.

With Publit as a partner, Saga Egmont looks bright towards the future. Plans include not only more Print on Demand editions but also greater support for authors with physical books at signings, fairs, and other events.

"Publit's ongoing innovation and ability to adapt to the publisher's needs make them a long-term partner in an ever-changing industry. And this is just the beginning," says Therese Dahlqvist. "Together with Publit, we look forward to continuing to evolve and reach even more readers – in a way that is both sustainable and efficient."
