A Flexible and Cost-Effective Publishing Model
Prevent is a non-profit organization focused on improving the working environment of Swedish employers. When facing major internal changes, they decided it was time to modernize their publishing workflow.
The organization, jointly owned by the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, LO and PTK, has an extensive catalog of more than fifty titles. These titles sell in quantities ranging from one hundred to one thousand copies per year. Previously they were produced traditionally in large print runs and stored in bulk. Their digital presence in the form of e-books was limited.
Balance physical and digital formats
Prevent wanted to expand their digital presence by offering more e-books, while still serving customers who prefer physical books. Finding a balance between these needs without increasing costs or environmental impact was essential.
Flexible and cost-effective publishing model
The solution came through a collaboration with Publit. Prevent had previously been in contact with Publit and now decided to renew the collaboration in order to create a more flexible and cost-effective publishing model. Using Publit's platform, Prevent could easily transition to Print on Demand, eliminating the need for large storage spaces.
Faster transition thanks to the pandemic
"We had been wanting to digitize our products for a long time," says a spokesperson for Prevent. "The pandemic accelerated this work, and we focused on being able to deliver digital products for our training programs while also moving toward Print on Demand."
Print on Demand reduces costs and environmental impact
With support from Publit, Prevent implemented several important changes. Print on Demand proved cost-effective and reduced tied-up capital as well as environmental impact. This was particularly important for an organization like Prevent, where sustainability is central. In addition, the new model made it possible for them to quickly update their educational materials, which had previously been time-consuming and costly when large print runs needed to be reprinted.
Seamless flow between physical and digital formats
Another key benefit of the collaboration was the ability to offer customers a smooth transition between digital and physical formats. Through Publit's platform, books could easily move between e-books, Print on Demand, and traditionally stocked books. This ensured that participants in the organization's digital training programs had easy access to all their materials in digital form, while customers who preferred printed books could continue to order as such.
Support from Publit's team facilitated the process
"We have had a very positive experience working with Publit," says Prevent. "The support from their team has been invaluable, especially since we are still relatively new to digital workflows as an organization. Their help has made it easy for us to get answers and solutions quickly."
Positive results and improved efficiency
The collaboration with Publit has already delivered clear results. Prevent has significantly reduced inventory costs while maintaining a high degree of flexibility in their publishing. The seamless integration of digital and physical formats has strengthened their ability to meet customer needs, through e-books or printed books.
Next step: growing e-book sales
Going forward, Prevent sees major opportunities to expand their e-book sales. Their next step is to rebuild their website to improve the user experience. By integrating Publit's API, they will be able to ensure consistent product information across all sales channels, reducing errors and increasing efficiency throughout the process. Prevent sees a bright future for their publishing and has already begun taking the next step towards offering even more digital content to their customers.
