A Question About Scalability
Ett Hum Publishing specializes in work psychology and leadership. They publish both printed books and e-books and also offer digital and interactive training modules that allow readers access the content of their books. They are especially known for their "A little book" series, with titles such as A Little Book About Leadership and A Little Book About Teamwork.
A stable partner
Ett hum tested several distributors to get their books to market. One did not meet their expectations, and another closed down, creating an urgent need for a new solution. Ett Hum was looking for a stable, long-term partner who could provide smooth service at a reasonable price. That's when they got in touch with Publit.
Collaboration with Publit
"Publit had a solution that really met all of our needs in terms of simplicity, service, value for money, and ongoing reporting of sales reporting," says Stefan Söderfjäll at Ett hum Publishing.
Print on Demand (POD) was the first step. By avoiding large print runs and printing only when a book was ordered and paid for, they quickly found a successful model. All that’s needed are print files and some metadata — no complicated contracts, endless quotes, or upfront costs. No inventory management is required either.
"The simple and smooth solution allows us to spend time on other things, and it has definitely enabled us to write and publish more books than we otherwise would have."
With a POD book, you are essentially "done" once it's published. You don't have to worry about stock levels, calculate whether a reprint is worth it, or discard outdated books when releasing a new edition.
Another key component was producing e-books and managing digital distribution. For smaller publishers, keeping e-book production in-house can be difficult since it's a completely different process than preparing print files for physical books. Because Publit offers e-book conversion and specialist expertise, Ett Hum chose to outsource production to Publit when expanding their e-book catalog. Both e-book conversions and digital distribution to selected retailers are easily managed through Publit's platform.
Scalability
Ett hum also needed to maintain some stock. With Publit, they could combine stocked books and Print on Demand in the same system, tracking both sales and inventory balance in one place. Books can, depending on demand, seamlessly go from being in stock to being available as POD, to being in stock again.
Economically, it has been a very effective solution. Publit, unlike traditional publishers, does not take the majority of the profit from sales", says Stafan Söderfjäll. "We also have the ability to set the price of the books ourselves".
In addition to reaching retailers through Bokinfo, Ett hum uses Publit's webshop to sell directly to end customers, with the webshop integrated on their website.
Ett Hum Publisishing is thriving, and the ability to act quickly when needed has been a major factor.
"I think that Publit has made the entire publishing process easier for us," concludes Stefan Söderfjäll.
We are happy to help you with a better distribution model!
